Commander Decks

Breena

WB Breena, the Demagogue

Politics and prison. Breena pays the table to attack whoever has the most life, while taxes and hatebears (Ghostly Prison, Thalia, Drannith Magistrate, Torpor Orb) make attacking me a bad deal and slow everyone else down. A deep removal suite and five wraths clean up when someone breaks through.

Anime, swole of elements

URG Animar, Soul of Elements

Creature storm. Every creature spell grows Animar and makes the next one cheaper, and bounce loops (Ancestral Statue, Temur Sabertooth, Shrieking Drake) recast creatures for almost nothing to keep the discount climbing. Once creatures are free, Eldrazi titans and Blightsteel Colossus end the game.

Art: Filip Burburan

Dread is Manifested (a lot)

UG Zimone, Mystery Unraveler

Lands matter, with a mystery box. Ramp and extra land drops trigger Zimone to manifest dread, filling the board with face-down creatures, and later land drops flip them face up. Morph and disguise payoffs (Deathmist Raptor, Kheru Spellsnatcher, Trail of Mystery) reward flipping at the right moment.

Art: Mila Pesic

Lathril

BG Lathril, Blade of the Elves

Elf tribal. Lathril turns combat damage into more elves, mana elves (Priest of Titania, Elvish Archdruid, Itlimoc) turn the swarm into a pile of mana, and tapping ten elves drains every opponent for 10. Craterhoof Behemoth and Triumph of the Hordes are there if the drain isn't enough.

Art: Caroline Gariba

Niv-Mizzet, The Slinger

UR Niv-Mizzet, Parun

Spellslinger with a combo finish. Every instant or sorcery draws a card and every card drawn pings for 1, so cheap cantrips and counterspells turn into damage. Curiosity or Ophidian Eye on Niv-Mizzet loops draws and pings until the table is dead, with Thassa's Oracle as a backup win.

Art: Svetlin Velinov

Vorinclex

G Vorinclex, Monstrous Raider

Mono-green superfriends. Vorinclex doubles every counter, so planeswalkers (a dozen Nissas, Garruks, and Viviens, plus Ugin) enter close to their ultimates, and +1/+1 counter creatures like Kalonian Hydra get out of hand fast. Doubling Season stacks on top for even sillier numbers.

Art: Daarken

Boros tokens

RW Otharri, Suns' Glory

Go wide, then go again. Otharri makes a bigger rebel army every time it attacks, while token doublers (Anointed Procession, Mondrak), anthems, and extra combats (Aurelia, Aggravated Assault, Seize the Day) multiply each swing. If Otharri dies, tapping a rebel brings it back.

Art: Marta Nael

Neck-you-sour

UBR Nekusar, the Mindrazer

Group slug. Wheels and symmetrical draw (Windfall, Howling Mine, Wheel of Misfortune) make everyone draw piles of cards, and Nekusar, Underworld Dreams, and Orcish Bowmasters make every one of those cards hurt. Counterspells keep anyone from shutting it off.

Art: Mark Winters

Mono black lifegain

B Tivash, Gloom Summoner

Drain and convert. Lifelinkers and drain effects (Gray Merchant, Vampiric Link, Tendrils of Corruption) pad my life total, and Tivash turns that life into a flying demon at the end of each turn. Heavy creature removal (Shriekmaw, Ravenous Chupacabra, Massacre Girl) keeps the board clear. It started as a $20 budget deck, and it is not a $20 deck anymore.

Art: Kieran Yanner

Jarad the guy

BG Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord

Self-mill and fling. The deck dumps its own library into the graveyard (Golgari Grave-Troll, Stitcher's Supplier, Splinterfright), which makes Jarad huge, then sacrifices big creatures to drain each opponent for their power. Reanimation (Victimize, Dread Return, Phyrexian Reclamation) brings the giants back to do it again.
